behind The Kiwi Copper cARTographer
Nestled in the coastal community of Beachlands, Auckland, The Kiwi Copper cARTographer is a one-person workshop where passion meets precision. Every copper map is designed, crafted, and meticulously finished by me, right here in my garage.
I’ve always been drawn to the beauty of copper—its warmth, its ability to evolve over time and I love the way it brings depth and character to these landscape pieces. Using my own original design, each piece is shaped with precision and painstaking attention to detail, exaggerating New Zealand’s terrain to bring its mountains and valleys to life.
Each map begins with Birch plywood, carved, then gilded with copper that conforms seamlessly to the intricate contours. A natural patina process ensures that no two maps are the same, creating a truly one-of-a-kind finish that captures the raw beauty of New Zealand. The process is slow and methodical, taking multiple days to complete, but that’s what makes each piece so special.
Whether you’re a local, a Kiwi abroad longing for home, or simply someone who loves the artistry of copper, my goal is to create something meaningful, lasting, and uniquely yours.
